About
What this is, who built it, and why it exists.
What Abstract Essence is
A self-grading hypothesis engine for product evaluation. Built by a solo founder over 100+ engineering sessions. The architecture was originally a financial prediction oracle (508 graded predictions, 29% directional accuracy — retired). The architecture survived; the domain did not. The current application: evaluating product opportunities under the same adversarial-grading discipline.
The four questions, applied to AE itself
What is this?
A pipeline that proposes product hypotheses, debates them across multiple frontier LLMs, scores them on five structural filters, and produces a verdict — graduate, kill, or escalate to human review. The output is product-decision evidence, not predictions.
Why this approach?
In an era when AI generates infinite plausible product ideas, the bottleneck is not generation but discrimination. The engine exists because no other tool grades product ideas the way it grades them — adversarially, transparently, with cost and reasoning logged.
What breaks?
The engine has known weaknesses: filter rubrics overfit to certain product shapes, signal classifiers can over-tag news as primary sources, the verdict council sometimes cannot converge. Each known weakness is logged and traced. None are hidden.
What we have learned
Building a product-evaluation engine taught more about evaluation methodology than about products. The single biggest lesson: rubric quality matters more than model quality. A great LLM with a bad rubric produces confident garbage.
What this dashboard is not
- Not investment advice. The engine evaluates product ideas, not securities.
- Not a SaaS product. There is no signup, no billing, no API key.
- Not finished. Every verdict on this dashboard is provisional.
Provenance
Every line of engine code, every design principle, every session handoff, and every brain/ file lives in a private git repository maintained by Architect (Claude Opus) under direction of Commander (Marcin Sobczak, founder, Abstract Essence Ltd).
